Mission

Director's Message

The rapid growth in population and the decrease in farmland have forced many countries to explore and utilize marine resources as new alternatives. The rapid growth of mariculture in China and Asia has generated substantial revenues, but this fast-growing industry can only be sustainable if we can control widespread marine diseases and marine environmental degradation. The developments of new initiatives such as marine natural products, genetic engineering of economically important mariculture species, and the prediction and prevention of red tides, are the highest priorities in government programs and these developments require a thorough understanding of marine ecosystem.
